ⓘ Longde County

Longde County is a county under the administration of the prefecture-level city of Guyuan in the south of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of the Peoples Republic of China.

County of Longde, located in the southern part of Ningxia. It got its name from the town of long and Deshun army. Historically, the County was under the control of the city of Pingliang in Gansu province. The rest borders on Ningxia, and Shaanxi and Gansu. It also links the important North Western cities of Xian and Lanzhou. To the North of Guyuan County in the East-Pingliang, in the South of Jingyuan County, West Jingning County.

Although the County of Longde, located in the southern part of Ningxia, the temperature is typically lower than in surrounding areas, because Longde is, on average, 2000 meters above sea level. In addition, because the County is in the Northern foothills of the Liupan mountains, there is relatively little water. The water that is added is usually lost in the streams of the earth, so agriculture in the County is poorly developed. These factors, in combination with gangs of bandits, who have historically roamed the region Longde County is famous for its impoverishment.

There are many mountains in the County of Longde. The highest peak in the Liupan range rises 2900 meters above sea level. The range became known after the leader of the Communist party of China, Mao Zedong wrote a poem with the phrase: "on the summit of Liupan, the red flag waves freely West wind". This mountain has some forest areas green, in contrast to the treeless hills surrounding the plateau of loess. In the 1960-ies of the mountain was still the haunt of Panthers, wolves, and other predators. On top of the mountain is a memorial pavilion for the long March of the red Army, television relay towers, weather stations and other things. Motor road of General use Liupan stretches for more than 5000 metres of drilling on the slope. Before the tunnel was opened to traffic, the Liupan range was a natural ditch that separates the highway between XIan and Lanzhou. The road twists and winds, exceptional and impressive spectacle. During the heavy snow of winter, cars often tip over because of the roads in difficult conditions.

Because the range of Liupan, which is over 200 kilometers in total, is located in the Southeast part of Longde, and the County as a whole high above the sea level in the East and lower in the West, the river water flow back here. There are not many rivers in the country, but the main of them belong to R. Y. and R. Hulu. There are also several large reservoirs and natural reservoirs, also known as "landslide dams".

As this district is on the periphery of the loess plateau, many mountains and ravines. Flat Land is called the "Quan". It is generally quite fertile and yields an abundant variety of products. In the mountains there are many terrace fields.

A large number of Han and Hui people live in the area. In the local dialect of Chinese similar to what is said in Shaanxi, but a little different. This is quite different from that spoken in the Northern part of Ningxia. Farmers grow wheat, potatoes, corn, soybeans, and peas, among other things. They also raise cattle, like cows, sheep and pigs. Products produced in the County include apples, pears, apricots, watermelons, and traditional Chinese medicine. Local folk traditions similar to those in surrounding Gansu and Shaanxi. Important holidays are often included in the exciting festive events. For example, the Spring festival includes a "juggling group fire" activities. There are also some practices that are not often found in other places in China. For example, "counterfeit rickets" during the first month of the new year according to the lunar calendar, fried peas on the second day of February, hanging chose a yellowish outside the door of the fifth of may, giving winter clothing to the ancestors on October 1, and others.

Because there is little space and a lot of people in some mountain areas, the environment was seriously damaged, and not suitable for living. In recent years the local government has organized residents to move to the plains in Northern Ningxia. Relocation is known locally as "hanging condolences on the village farm." There are also many rural young people who left the County to find opportunities to work in China in the coastal areas.
